Contemporary Abstract Paintings

By North Carolina Artist Julie Wolk

My paintings explore the wildness we carry within and the quiet tension between who we are and who the world expects us to be.

Through layered color, texture, and expressive mark-making, I create contemporary abstract paintings that invite you to look closer, remember what’s wild within you, and make room for what wants to come alive.

Painting asks something of us that much of modern life does not:
to slow down and truly look.

A lifelong artist with a decidedly nonlinear path

After decades spent shaping brands and telling other people's stories, I returned to the thing that had always been there: making art. What began as a sabbatical became a full-time studio practice—and a different way of paying attention
