Everywhere I go, people are glued to smart devices.
At dinner tables.
Crossing streets.
At stoplights.
In waiting rooms and bathroom stalls.
Our lives transfixed by glowing screens no bigger than an index card.
And somehow, we’ve started calling that a life.
No wonder we feel so disconnected —
from one another,
from the world,
from ourselves.
“Light Riot” is a celebration of rediscovering aliveness through unapologetic sensuality:
music that moves through the body,
touch that makes skin tingle,
scents that awaken longing,
tastes that comfort and nourish,
and sights that crack open wonder.
But “Light Riot” is also threaded with darkness.
Because without sorrow,
how could we fully recognize joy?
Without longing,
how could we understand beauty?
My hope is that this painting serves as a reminder:
to wake up,
to feel deeply,
and to truly live —
not merely exist.

Artist-in-Residence | JB Duke Hotel
As Artist-in-Residence at the JB Duke Hotel in Durham, North Carolina, I created a series of live paintings while inviting hotel guests to become part of the creative process. More than 30 people—from conference attendees to families traveling together—added their own marks to a collaborative canvas, each choosing colors and contributing to a painting that none of us could have created alone.

What unfolded was a reminder of something I believe deeply: creativity isn't reserved for artists. Children instinctively painted with curiosity and freedom, while many adults needed only a little encouragement to set aside the idea of getting it "right." Once they did, the conversation shifted from technique to discovery.
​
The residency became less about demonstrating how I paint and more about creating space for people to reconnect with their own sense of play, presence, and possibility. Those moments of shared making are every bit as meaningful to me as the finished paintings themselves.
The Sassy Sisterhood Series
The "Sassy Sisterhood" series was born from an abstract self portrait that I painted the week after my father died in the Fall of 2025. The image that emerged was raw, tender and evocative of the complexity of aliveness. Since then, more women emerged on my canvas – whimsical, salty, sassy, pensive, absurd, messy, poignant. Just like life.

"She Likes Them Slightly Dirty"
Myrna plays pickleball in her pearls and believes Mahjong Mondays really do set the right tone for the week. She puts the ‘cute’ in charcuterie and has a zesty preference for spicy salami. She likes her martinis like she likes her men…slightly dirty.
She considers leopard print a neutral, travels with emergency lipstick, and has absolutely no patience for weak hors d’oeuvres or weak opinions. Her doctor says she should cut back on sodium, but frankly, life’s too short to fear olives.
She says ‘just one drink’ with tremendous optimism.
